Sanford H. 'Sandy' Green, Chief

This 50 year old native of Memphis, TN moved to Canaan Valley from the suburbs of Washington, DC on April Fools Day 1982. Little did he know the joke was on him. He was immediately 'conscripted' as he describes it, into the CVVFD by Sam Fore, who was a firefighter and EMT at the time.
As manager of Canaan Valley Stores in those early years, Sandy was the closest volunteer to the station and on at least one occasion took a pumper truck to the scene of a structure fire by himself. What he planned to do with it all by his lonesome is anyone's guess, but his heart was in the right place even if his brain was clearly in the wrong one.
Sandy has served in the capacity of President and Assistant Chief for the past decade and was recently voted as Chief when then, 'Chief For Life' Kenneth Sturm decided to step down after 18 years in that position.
Sandy is also a founding member of the Tucker County Tactical Rescue Team and has competed in regional and state events on several levels for the past 10 years where the 'Team' has won numerous accolades (as well as several dozen trophies) for their performance.
Currently serving as the chairman of the E-911 Advisory Council Sandy is also an avid hunter and fisherman who's tastes recently have him leaning more and more toward the big game fishing grounds of the Atlantic Ocean. He also loves to sing and write country music and is living a life-long dream of playing in a band.
