A note from the Chief:

The Assistance To Firefighter's Grant or AFG was awarded to Canaan Valley VFD in the amount of $925,849. The grant was written to update the emergency response communication system for all of Tucker County. FEMA requires a single agency file for these grants and that is why it bears the CVVFD name as the recipient.

For years, some Tucker County first response agencies have been operating on different radio bandwidths that required cross-band communication or an adjunct, to talk to one another on scene. With this grant Tucker County will be able to replace outdated radio equipment and get all the agencies in the same bandwidth so anyone in any department or agency can speak to anyone else in the response system. Moreover, after having purchased all new pagers, portables, mobile and base radios, we will have established a state of the art county-wide system that will stand alone and not be reliant on the state Interoperable Radio System (IRP). That said, the possibility exists that with a minor financial input in the future, we may be able to have full access to the IRP trunking system when a full-blown multi-agency response is called for.

Under the purview of the Canaan Valley VFD, a working group will be established to plan the execution and administration of the grant in a timely fashion.

We meet the first Monday of each month for our business meeting at 1900 hours (7PM). We meet the third Monday of each month for our training meeting at 1830 hours (6:30PM). In the event that either of these Mondays is a holiday, we meet the following Monday.

April training meeting will take place Monday, April 19th at 1800 hours. Please note the time change!
